Preventive Care for Children and Adolescents
Well child visits are an important and indispensable part of your child’s healthcare. I consider them so important, that if well child visits are repeatedly missed, there may be discussion about the appropriateness of remaining in this practice community. A child’s growth and developmental milestones are addressed in these visits and if not detected early, can lead to missed opportunities for intervention. I think we can all agree that our young ones deserve the best we can offer in terms of preventive care!
The schedule of recommended well visit is as follows:
Exam at birth and within 2-3 days as needed
2 Weeks
2 Months
4 Months
6 Months
9 Months
12 Months
15 Months
18 Months
24 Months
Age 3 and annually through age 18
For school aged children, it may be helpful to schedule well child visits during the summer when they are out of school and the schedule is less likely to be full of families dealing with colds, etc.
